Green is the color, Zalgiris is the name – the Lithuanian League (LKL) trophy is staying in Kaunas, as Zalgiris finished off one of the most dominant seasons domestically in years with a 3-0 sweep of Lietuvos Rytas in the LKL Finals. After taking convincing wins in games one and two, Zalgiris came out on top in game three as well, defeating the rivals from Vilnius 90-84 (25-20, 22-24, 22-19, 21-21) in the closest game of the series in Kaunas on Sunday.

After starting the Lithuanian League (LKL) Finals with a win at home in Kaunas, Zalgiris followed up the successful performance with an 86-76 (14-10, 34-25, 18-17, 20-24) victory against Lietuvos Rytas on the road in Vilnius on Thursday evening. Leading the series 2-0, the club from Kaunas now needs just one more victory to finish of the series and they will have the chance to do that in Zalgiris Arena on Sunday.

FIBA Europe is undergoing serious changes, led by its Icelandic president Olafur Rafnsson, under who’s whim the Executive Committee decided to sack the current secretary general Nar Zanolin. According to lrytas.lt, Rafnsson called an extraordinary meeting on Monday, in which the decision was made. “It’s a strange situation. All I can say that a vote about FIBA Europe’s separation from FIBA was scheduled for the General Assembly next week,” said Mindaugas Balciunas, the general secretary of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF).

Mindaugas Kupsas might have been a surprising name to see in the 2012 NBA Draft participant list, but the Lithuanian big man has already attracted the attention of several NBA teams, which have invited the 7-footer for workouts. The player’s agent Sam Porter informed LithuaniaBasketball.com that the 21-year-old is scheduled to have several NBA workouts already in May.
