Vladimir Romanov repeated his request for 10 million Litas (2.9 mln. Euros) in his meeting with Kaunas’ government. The businessman also stated that he is renouncing his ownership rights.

“I’m leaving the club. I have selected some people, who are sure to give it their all. We already began shaping the documents yesterday. I am resigning from the owner’s role. I will always help Zalgiris, but not as an owner,” said Romanov.

He later added that Modestas Paulauskas and Vitoldas Masalskis will now be responsible for running the team.

Asked, why he is leaving the team, Romanov stated that the government keeps saying that Zalgiris is a private club and needs to get through on their own.

“It finally hit me. They won’t have this trump any more.”

The businessman also revealed  that Zalgiris’ budget is 10.4 million Euros this season and that the team owes 7.2 million Euros to players all the way from last season.

“We only ask for 10 million Litas,” Romanov told the government.

Later on he got into a quarrel with representatives of other sports and demonstratively left the meeting.
