This morning wasn’t the greatest for Zalgiris. It is reported that the owner of the club Vladimir Romanov asked Darius Maskoliunas to resign from his position as the head coach of the club.

The coach neither confirmed, nor denied these talks.

According the BasketNews.lt, Maskoliunas should still coach in game three of Lithuanian League (LKL) finals today, but his future in Zalgiris is very foggy.

Maskoliunas was with the team in morning practice, but the team’s meeting lasted for over an hour after the shoot-around. The coach returned to the hotel together with the whole team.

Players didn’t want to give any comments on the situation in the club and by doing so giving out that something bad was happening inside the team.

Zalgiris’ General Director Paulius Motiejunas, who was still in Paris at the time of the call, wasn’t very specific in saying that for now Maskoliunas is working with the team and there will be more to say when he returns to Lithuania this evening.

Lietuvos Rytas will host Zalgiris in game three of the LKL finals. The series are tied at 1-1 at the moment with both teams stealing victories on the road.
