Oscar Quintana, head coach of Meridiano Alicante, pointed out that Katelynas will not play for the club next season, but it had nothing to do with sport or economic issues. The coach noted that Katelynas priority would be joining a club in Lithuania in order to be closer to his family and his girlfriend after spending a decade playing abroad.
However, it’s still not clear whether the player will make his way back to Lithuania. If he was to return, the two teams that could take on his contract would be the defending Lithuanian champions Lietuvos Rytas or Zalgiris Kaunas, with which the player was already linked recently.
Quintana revealed that the Katelynas’ agent was looking to find a stronger ACB club or a spot in a Euroleague side if he can’t get a deal with either of the Lithuanian basketball giants.
