Despite a meeting with Zalgiris’ owner Vladmir Romanov, the coach that led Lietuvos Rytas through two trophy-rich seasons didn’t give much hope to those, who would want to see Kurtinaitis return to Zalgiris, where he spent numerous years as a player.
“We talked about roster formation. I said that if I went to Zalgiris, I’d want to replace some players and also be in charge when it comes to making decisions on the court or in practice.
Even though Zalgiris will always have a special place in my heart, I do not think that I’ll make the return this year. It would be unethical to take away all those trophies that I’ve won with Lietuvos Rytas already the next year,” Kurtinaitis joked.
The coach plans to watch all of the games of the World Cup and is waiting for job offers for next year. Kurtinaitis hopes to coach a Euroleague club next season, therefore, is in no hurry to accept an offer that he has received from VEF Riga.
