Rimas Kurtinaitis will coach VEF Riga
A contract should be signed in the next couple of days.
“Kurtinaitis is a good coach with a winner’s mentality. I believe he is one of the best in the Baltic region and VEF is very lucky to have reached an agreement,” said the vice-president of the club Valdis Valters.
VEF Riga and Valdis Valters himself started negotiations with Kurtinaitis when it was clear that he would not be staying at the helm of Lietuvos Rytas.
The coach expected offers from bigger clubs and a Euroleague job, but had to settle for the position in the Latvian club, which will compete in the Eurocup qualifications and VTB United League after finishing second in the Latvian league last year.
