Zalgiris’ General Manager Paulius Motiejunas was happy that the club managed to bring home a player of Jankunas caliber.
“As I’ve said before, if an opportunity to get a good player opens up, we’ll go ahead and do it. It’s not a secret how much Paulius means to Zalgiris and the fact that he’s coming back home is a big achievement,” said Motiejunas.
The 26-year-old will join Zalgiris frontline which is overfilled with talent – Tadas Klimavicius, Travis Watson, Mirza Begic and Mario Delas have recently been joined by Omar Samhan.
Motiejunas also confirmed that the club extended the contract with Povilas Cukinas.
There are no doubts that the younger big men Povilas Butkevicius and Siim Sander-Vene will have to change teams, but it’s still unclear if Delas will have to do the same.
“That’s one of the options. Mario could be loaned to a team, where he gets the best opportunity to improve,” said Zalgiris’ GM Motiejunas.
Young and talented guards will also be sent to other teams on loan. Among those – Zygimantas Janavicius, Sarunas Vasiliauskas, Arturas Milaknis and maybe Adas Juskevicius. The players will be sent to a couple of different teams.
“Sakalai, Nevezis, Siauliai, Techasas, Kaunas – any of those teams. It won’t be that all of the players go to one team. They will be sent to a couple of different teams from the mentioned earlier,” Motiejunas explained.
Motiejunas also gave an end to the rumours that Zalgiris are close to wrapping up a deal with Darius Washington. According to Zalgiris’ General Manager, there haven’t been any advancements in the negotiations.
Aco Perovic should finally name his squad this week. Zalgiris will start preparing for the new season on 16 of August.
