Aleksandr Trifunovic marked his return to Lietuvos Rytas as the club’s head coach with a very comfortable 83-56 (18-9, 29-11, 15-16, 21-20) victory over the league debutants Naglis from Palanga.

The Lithuanian league (LKL) title holders from Vilnius improved their record to 3-0 while Naglis dropped to 1-1 after a big loss.

Kenan Bajramovic top-scored for the visitors from Vilnius with 21 points, Arturas Jomantas had 13 while the in-form Arvydas Siksnius collected 12. Martynas Gecevicius and Brad Newley finished the game with 11 points each.

Vilmantas Dilys had a game-high of 22 for Naglis while Ignas Razutis and Eugene Harris added 6 each for the sea-side club.

Lietuvos Rytas started the game strong and a 14-1 run to start the game was all it took to decide the outcome of the game. The side from the Lithuanian capital showed no signs of fatigue on the second of their back-to-back away games as the gap between the teams was increased to 27 points at 47-20 before the halftime break.

The hosts stepped up on defense in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a crushing defeat as Lietuvos Rytas cruised to a comfortable win.

However, it came with a cost – the starting point guard of the Euroleague side, Jerry Johnson, had to leave the game with an injury in the first quarter after twisting his ankle. The severity of the injury will be determined tomorrow.
