Petrukonis surprisingly 'promoted' to Lietuvos Rytas

When everybody was talking about a new point guard, the management of Lietuvos Rytas decided to invite the 23-year-old big man Karolis Petrukonis to the first team. The 212 cm tall center spent the start of the season with the side’s secondary team Perlas Vilnius. It is reported that Petrukonis will stay in Lietuvos Rytas at least until the end of the season.

The move looks surprising when looking at the statistics of the player, as Petrukonis averaged only 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds on an average playing time of 13 minutes per game in the Lithuanian League (LKL). Petrukonis played for Techasas Panevezys last season and before that was a part of the Clemson Tiger squad in the NCAA from 2006 to 2009.
