Zalgiris used an option to terminate the contract with former
team captain
Dainius Salenga, who still had one-and-a-half years on his deal.
The 33-year-old veteran is suspected of using banned stimulants as the player’s
doping test after a Euroleague game against Khimki was positive. The doping
control officers found Methylhexaneamine, which was added to the banned
substance list in 2009, in the veteran’s urine test.
The possible use of banned substances violated Salenga’s
contract with the club and Zalgiris used an option to terminate the contract.
The situation with the player is not clear in general and it isn’t known if
Salenga might be handed a long-term disqualification, though the player himself
denies having used banned stimulants.
