According to Spanish media, former Zalgiris player Mirza Begic, who left the club just before the New Year, has agreed terms with Spanish giant Real Madrid, but the club from Kaunas is not willing to let the player go.

It is reported that Real were offering a €500,000 buyout, but Zalgiris declined the proposal immediately and will not give Begic the letter of release, which would allow the Slovenian big man to sign with another club.

The Spanish side is not expected to raise their bid, therefore the Euroleague season for Begic is probably over as the deadline for new player registration ends later in the day.

Begic and Zalgiris still had a one-and-a-half year contract remaining, when the player unilaterally left Lithuania. Last year’s LKL runners-up are not going to give the letter of release and will go to court with the player.
