Martynas Gecevicius will be out for two weeks

Bad news just became worse for Lietuvos Rytas, as it became clear that the team’s leader Martynas Gecevicius, who got injured just before halftime in the game against Panathinaikos, will have to sit out at least a couple weeks of action.

It was feared that the 22-year-old guard might have heavily injured his knee after an unsuccessful attempt to draw a charge whilst trying to stop Nick Calathes, who was running a fast break, but it appears that the injury is minor.

Gecevicius, who’s averaging 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in Euroleague play, will have to miss next week’s game against Caja Laboral, but is expected to be fit for the road game versus Unicaja on February 3rd.

This is indeed bad news for the Lithuanian team and its fans, since they are already set back with a loss against Panathinaikos. And this week, they will be playing minus a key player in Gecevicius in a must-win game. It would be interesting to see who will step up and take over the role that Gecevicius will vacate after this unexpected injury.
