Lietuvos Rytas missed a great opportunity to make a bold statement about advancing from their Top 16 group in Euroleague, letting a solid lead slip in the fourth quarter in Malaga to lose 91-98 (23-18, 29-27, 17-17, 21-36) against Unicaja.

The side from Vilnius were in front 70-62 after the third quarter, but Nedzad Sinanovic started causing problems right after stepping on the court in the end of the third period and was Unicaja’s main key to the victory.

The big Bosnian managed to score 15 points on perfect shooting and grabbed 8 rebounds in only twelve minutes of action for a total ranking of 27.

Uros Tripkovic also had 15 points while Robert Archibald scored 13. Terrell McIntyre and Joel Freeland finished the game with 12 each while Georgios Printezis and Berni Rodriguez, also with 6 assists, both added 10 points for Unicaja.

Lietuvos Rytas’ guard Khalid El-Amin top-scored for the Lithuanian club with 14 points and also dished out eight dimes, Simas Jasaitis finished the game with 13 points while the trio of Milko Bjelica, Jonas Valanciunas and Brad Newley shared 12 points each as Martynas Gecevicius added 11 for the visitors.

True. Lietuvos Rytas just wasted a huge opportunity presented to them. If only they stayed strong in the end to defend their lead, then it could have been a whole different story for the team. But know, they find themselves in a hole wherein the remaining games become a must-win situation for them. Or else, this is as far as they can get for this season.
