Despite spending almost the whole career in Europe, Khalid El-Amin made his debut in Euroleague only this year. Last week’s game against Caja Laboral, in which the 31- year-old American guard sustained a knee injury, might end up being the last one for the player in Vilnius.

“[El-Amin’s] knee is badly injured. This season is certainly over for the player, but we will only be able to judge how the rehab might take after the surgery,” said the team’s doctor Tomas Vorobjovas.

After going through an MRI, it became clear that undergoing surgery is unavoidable, as the player’s Quadriceps muscle is being held to the patella only by a couple of fibers.

“Rehab after such severe injuries usually takes a long time. The entire healing process might take from six months up to a full year,” the doctor said.

Through his long career, El-Amin hadn’t been seriously injured and it will be the first time that the player will undergo surgery. However, the American needs to decide where he wants to do that – in the United States or in Lithuania, where he has already been recommended the services of surgeon, who operated Robertas Javtokas after a motorcycle crash in 2002.

Very sad news. El-Amin is such a hardworking player who has carried his team to crucial victories in the Top 16 round. I'm sure his fans have nothing else in mind but to see him recover soon and find out by then what the future of his basketball career in the Euroleague will look like.
