After a big upset in the Baltic League (BBL) semi-final, Lietuvos Rytas managed to bounce back in the bronze-medal game. Just barely, though. The Lithuanian champions edged Ventspils 84-80 (24-21, 19-18, 27-23, 14-18) after the Latvians had lost to Zalgiris by 53 points the previous day.

The big men duet of Kenan Bajramovic, who scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and Jonas Valanciunas, who finished with 16 points and 8 boards, seemed to cause the most problems to Ventspils defense. Steponas Babrauskas also had a decent game with 15 points, Martynas Gecevicius scored 12, while Aleskandar Rasic collected 9 points for Lietuvos Rytas.

“It’s hard to find the emotions to fight after a loss like yesterday. We fought well and controlled the game for the majority of the time. Aleskandar Rasic played really well, but when he was on the bench, the opponents managed to catch us,” said Lietuvos Rytas coach Aleksandar Trifunovic.

Brandon Hunter had a team-high 19 points for Ventspils, Oritseweyimi Efejuku scored 18, as Janis Strelnieks and Maris Gublis finished the game with 11 and 8 respectively.
