Despite a lot of noise about the betting scandal in the
Lithuanian League (LKL), the players involved came out with rather light
punishment.
The Lithuanian Basketball
Federation’s (LKF) Executive Committee revealed the three wrongdoers from
Naglis, who bet against their own team – Vytautas Buzas, Rimas Varanauskas and
Vidmantas Uzkuraitis.
After recommendations from the LKF, the league decided to
hand out fines of around € 900 as well as two year suspended ban. The fairly
light punishment was given because of the good-natured co-operation of the team and the players with the league during the investigation.
