The defending Lithuanian League (LKL) champions Lietuvos Rytas started the semifinal series against Rudupis with a difficult 88-75(24-23, 16-14, 17-14, 21-14) victory at home in Vilnius. The team from the Lithuanian capital has moved to a 1-0 lead in a best-of-three series.

The game was watched by Chris Grant, the General Manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and former NBA All-Star Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who is currently the assistant General Manager of the Sacramento Kings.

One of the biggest prospects from Europe in this NBA draft, Jonas Valanciunas, finished the game with 8 points and 5 rebounds, all of which came in the first half.

Brad Newley has been playing really well lately for Lietuvos Rytas and scored 15 points on the night, as Aleksandar Rasic was a real court general with a near double-double of 12 points and 9 assists. Kenan Bajramovic had 12 points, Simas Jasaitis scored 11 and Martynas Gecevicius added 10 points.

Rudupis’ big man Edgaras Zelionis and sharp-shooter Justas Sinica had 15 points each, Adas Juskevicius scored 14 points while Gediminas Orelik added 8 points and 7 rebounds.
