“The season wasn’t an easy one for Collins. It was a big challenge for the player, as he wanted to prove he can still play after a couple of quite seasons. We are satisfied with how Collins played and think that he will help us a lot next season as well,” said Paulius Motiejunas, the club’s General Director.
Collins averaged 7.6 points, 3.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game in the LKL, with his performance notably increasing in the playoffs, where he had a 10.7 point average for Zalgiris.
A different fate awaited the club’s other playmaker, Aleksandr Capin, on whom Zalgiris had a one year team option. The Greens decided not to pick up the extension and let the 28-year-old Slovenian test the market in the summer.
“We had the chance to extend the contract with Capin, but decided to have one of our young prospects take his place,” Motiejunas commented.
Capin had a minuscule role in Zalgiris this season, receiving only just over ten minutes of playing time per game in the LKL, where he averaged 3.5 points and 1.4 asists. The Slovenian played a total of only 9 games in other leagues – Euroleague, VTB United League and the Baltic League.
