Having put quite a lot of effort in
strengthening the team in the off-season, Zalgiris are still searching for the
team’s game, as the start of the Lithuanian League (LKL) was marked with a
rather difficult 75-68 (12-19, 24-15, 21-18, 18-16) victory on the road against
Naglis in Palanga on Tuesday.
The duo of Robertas Javtokas and Sonny Weems were
the key figures in Zalgiris’ victory with 15 points each. Mindaugas Kuzminskas
scored nine points and grabbed eight boards, while Mantas Kalnietis and Tadas
Klimavicius chipped in with eight points each.
“It wasn’t that difficult of a game. It was a
good match. We finished it strongly at took the victory. I wouldn’t like to
comment further on the game,” said Ilias Zouros, the Greek coach of Zalgiris.
Mindaugas Reminas, a 25-year-old guard, scored a
game-high 23 points for Naglis, Bilal Benn had a double-double of 13 points and
10 rebounds, while the Paulius Kleiza, Nikita Barinov and Tomas Rinkevicius all
collected eight points each for the Palanga side.
