Having
played a very minor role for Zalgiris during his time with the Kaunas club,
Arturas Milaknis will be forced to look for a new club, as the defending Lithuanian
League (LKL) champions decided to cut the player loose.
The
25-year-old sharp-shooter didn’t step on the court on any Euroleague or VTB
League games this season and went scoreless in the three games that he played
in the LKL.
According
to the player’s agent Gytis Rukas, Milaknis had drawn interest from a
Euroleague side, but the fact that he was registered by Zalgiris will likely
prevent the transfer, as Milaknis wouldn’t be able to play in the regular
season for a different club.
Tomas Pacesas, the Lithuanian coach of Asseco Prokom, confirmed to BasketNews.lt that he was targeting Milaknis, but the fact that he isn't able to play in the regular season kept the deal from coming through.
“The
situation isn’t very nice. The season has already started and we would’ve
preferred to have known earlier, which would have given us more options,” said
the player’s agent, who admitted that Milaknis will probably have to settle for
offers from smaller clubs now.
