Lietuvos Rytas confirmed their status as one of the main pretenders for the
Eurocup title with an 83-55 (10-16, 24-12, 22-12, 27-15) victory over Azovmash
Mariupol at home in Siemens Arena in Vilnius on Tuesday evening.
Despite a slow start, after which Lietuvos Rytas found themselves trailing
10-16 after the first quarter, the Vilnius side bounced back in the second
quarter. A massive 18-0 run in the middle of the period saw the home side pull
away 30-21.
Lietuvos Rytas took a double-digit lead in the third quarter and held a
safe distance for the rest of the game behind a good overall team performance,
which led to a crushing victory.
Renaldas Seibutis led all scorers with 17 points, Mindaugas Katelynas had
15 points, Jonas Valanciunas finished the game with 12 points, while point
guards Aleksandar Rasic and Tyrese Rice both finished with eight points.
For Azovmash, Ricky Minard scored 12 points, Hasan Rizciv collected 11,
while Daniel Ewing also finished in double-digits with 10 points.
The Lithuanian side had lost to Azovmash in the VTB League more than a
month ago, which was the last time Lietuvos Rytas had tasted defeat.
