Despite finally getting to winning ways in Euroleague, Zalgiris couldn’t use the momentum and suffered another defeat in the VTB United League, losing 83-72 (19-31, 18-23, 17-13, 18-16) to Khimki on the road in Russia.
The Russian side had a 17-point lead at halftime, but Zalgiris managed to chip the deficit to nine (54-63) before the hosts went on a 15-4 run to decide the outcome of the game.
This was the fifth loss for Zalgiris in seven games in the competition, which puts the Greens in the bottom of the table, while Khimki are in the opposite end of the table, having taken all six possible victories
Robertas Javtokas led Zalgiris in scoring with 16 points, Marko Popovic had 15, while Mindaugas Kuzminskas chipped in with 11 points.
For Khimki, Vitaly Fridzon and Timofey Mozgov both scored 16 points, Thomas Kelati had 10, as Kresimir Loncar and Sergey Monya shared nine points each.
