
The name of Jonas Valanciunas, who is continuing his career in Europe with Lietuvos Rytas, is among ten most talented young European players, who were nominated for the FIBA Europe Young Player of the Year award.
The 19-year-old Lithuanian big man had a memorable year, winning the FIBA U19 World Championship in Riga, where he was also selected as the MVP of the tournament and making a debut in Lithuania’s national team in EuroBasket 2011.
Amongst other nominees are the Utah Jazz draftee Enes Kanter, Nikola Mirotic from Real Madrid and the Georgian rising star Tornike Shengelia for Spirou Charleroi amongst others.
The FIBA Europe awards are the most prestigious in the continent and winners will be decided both by the public and an expert panel vote. Only players born in 1991 or after were eligible to be nominated in the FIBA Europe Best Young Player of the Year award.
