Sonny Weems took matters into his own hands
down the stretch, exploding for the go-ahead dunk in the dying seconds of the
VTB League game against Khimki to give Zalgiris a 95-94 (24-23, 22-25, 25-28, 24-18) lead, which proved to be
victorious.
The Kaunas crowd was heavily disgruntled by the
referees throughout the game, but the inappropriate chants towards the officials
were forgotten with a massive eruption in Zalgiris Arena after Weems threw it
down with 3.9 seconds remaining to give Zalgiris the win.
Despite having some time left on the clock,
Khimki could not get a decent look at the basket, as their last possession
ended by Zoran Planinic firing from almost the halfway line.
The hero of the night Weems led Zalgiris in
scoring with 25 points, Marko Popovic had 19, while Mantas Kalnietis finished
with 14 points.
Thomas Kelati had a game-high 31 point for Khimki, Planinic scored 14 while Matt Nielsen and Sergei Monya had 13 points each.
