Reeves Nelson’s stint with in Lithuania didn’t
last long, as the 20-year-old American is already set to leave Zalgiris after
spending only just more than a month in Kaunas. The club had signed a
short-term contract with Nelson and the deal ran out on February 1.
“Nelson’s try-out period in our team ended. The
American is a good player, but he needs time to get used to European basketball
and Zalgiris. However, we don’t have the time – we needed Nelson to play at the
top level already now,” said the club’s owner Vladimir Romanov.
After signing the player, Zalgiris were
surprised to find out that he was five centimeters shorter than reported, but
still decided to give the American a try.
However, the short stint didn’t work out for
Nelson, who averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds per game in three Lithuanian
League (LKL) games, while his statistics were a bit better in the VTB League
with 4.5 points and 6 rebounds per game.
“I’m leaving with the Kaunas club with no hard
feelings. I came to an already settled team with a strong roster. I gained some
useful experience, which I’m sure will help in the future,” said Nelson.
