Jonas Valanciunas continued
snatching personal awards, as the Lietuvos Rytas center was named to be FIBA
Europe’s Young Player of the Year.
The 19-year-old Lithuanian,
who also won the Lithuanian Player of the Year award and finished second in the Lithuanian Sports Personality of the Year race, beat his closest rival Nikola Mirotic both
in fan voting and also expert voting.
Valanciunas led Lithuania to
FIBA U19 World Championship gold in Riga last summer, before making a
successful debut with the Lithuanian senior side in EuroBasket 2011, which was
held in Lithuania.
