Zalgiris
ended a highly disappointing Euroleague campaign on a yet another low note,
losing 71-77 (23-18, 12-21, 15-11,
21-27) to Cantu at home in Kaunas, and ended the Top 16 stage without a single
win.
Although
the game against the Italian side didn’t mean anything in the Group H
standings, the loss meant that for the third time in the club’s history Zalgiris
finished Top 16 with a 0-6 record.
Marko
Popovic led the Kaunas team with 15 points, Milovan Rakovic scored 14, while
Mantas Kalnietis chipped in with 12 for Zalgiris.
However,
the home side couldn’t stop the Georgian duet of Manuchar Markoishvili and
Giorgi Shermadini. Markoishvili scored 32 points on 5-of-10 three-pointers,
while Shermadini finished the game with 16 points and eight rebounds.
