Zalgiris Kaunas had to leave the court rather disappointed, after losing an
important VTB League game to Unics on Friday night. A victory would have
allowed the Lithuanian club to book a ticket in the quarterfinals, but the side
from Kaunas ended up losing 73-77 (20-16, 16-19, 21-19, 16-23).
The Greens will now need to win in the last regular season game against VEF
Riga in order to finish third in Group A, while a loss would eliminate Zalgiris
from the tournament.
Sonny Weems scored 19 points for the Lithuanian team, Marko Popovic added
15, as no other player made it into double-figures for Zalgiris, with Mantas
Kalnietis and DeJuan Collins next in line with seven points each.
Nathan Jawai led the visitors from Russia with 16 points, Terrell Lyday
scored 15, while Piotr Samoylenko and Henry Domercant finished the game with 13
and 12 respectively.
