Sonny Weems
will not be able to help Zalgiris in the final stage of the season, as the
American swingman’s ankle sprain turned out to be more severe than previously
thought. After a further examination once the swelling died down, it became
clear that the season is over for Weems.
“Weems’ ankle
ligaments were damaged more severely, than we expected. Injuries like this
usually take 6-8 weeks to heal and require at least an extra week of rehab
afterwards,” said Robertas Narkus, the doctor of Zalgiris.
The
American was averaging 9.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in the Lithuanian League
(LKL), while his statistics in Euroleague were much more impressive – 15.5
points, 5 rebounds and 1.3 assist per game.
