
Zalgiris
suffered the first defeat of the season in the Lithuanian League (LKL) near the
end of the regular season. After recording 19 consecutive victories in the
domestic championship, Zalgiris was surprisingly halted by Siauliai, who
defeated the defending league champions 92-81 at home on Monday evening.
After the
first half, the Greens found themselves with a three-point deficit, but
Siauliai turned on the long-range shooting and ran away with a solid lead. With
less than four minutes in the game, a basket by Arvydas Siksnius had even
increased the advantage to 18 points.
Cameron
Long led Siauliai with 21 points, Edvinas Ruzgas scored 17, Raitis Grafs had 14
points and 7 rebounds, while Arvydas Siksnius chipped in with 11 points for the
home side.
Dainius
Salenga and Mantas Kalnietis scored 14 points each for the visiting Zalgiris ,
Tomas Delininkaitis added 11 and Marko Popovic also reached double-digits with
10, but could not save the team from an unexpected loss.
