Lithuania’s preparations for the pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament took a big hit, as Renaldas Seibutis got injured during a team practice in Palanga. According to lrytas.lt, the 26-year-old guard seems to have suffered multiple fractures on his cheekbone.
The player was immediately taken to a hospital in Klaipeda, where it was decided to transfer him to the clinics in Kaunas. After surgery it became clear that Seibutis, who had an amazing season with Lietuvos Rytas, will be sidelined for at least a month and, therefore, will have to miss the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Venezuela.
“It looks like we won’t have Renaldas at least for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. It’s a pity, as he was in top shape and we all felt that he could help us a lot. What can you do – that’s life, we have to move on. Everyone on the team wishes Renaldas a speedy recovery,” said the head coach of the national team Kestutis Kemzura.
Seibutis had a stellar season in Vilnius, where he averaged 14.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in Eurocup and 13.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in the Lithuanian League (LKL) for Lietuvos Rytas.
