
Lithuania bounced back after the loss in the beginning of the Olympics and got the London 2012 campaign back on track with a 72-53 (14-8, 20-19, 22-13, 16-13) victory against Nigeria to improve to 1-1 in Group A.
The Baltic side had experienced the strength of the Nigerians in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Venezuela, where they lost 80-86.
However, Nigeria made only 1-of-16 three-pointers in the second meeting between the sides this summer after going 11-of-24 in the first game.
Lithuania started the game well behind solid play from Jonas Valanciunas, but Nigeria managed to stay close during the first quarter.
After a 15-3 run to start the second period, the Lithuanians increased the lead to 18 points. However, Nigeria bounced right back with a 10-1 run to cut the deficit to 34-27.
Lithuania went on another spurt in the beginning of the third quarter to break away to a 45-32 advantage, before terrific play from Antanas Kavaliauskas, who finished the game with six points, allowed the lead to reach 20 points at 56-36.
Linas Kleiza had a game-high 13 points for Lithuania, Darius Songaila scored 12, while Rimantas Kaukenas finished the game with 10 points and Sarunas Jasikevicius was just short of a double-double with nine points and nine assists
For Nigeria, Al-Farouq Aminu had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Ike Diogu scored 12 points and grabbed 10 boards, while Alade Aminu chipped in with 10 points.
Lithuania will face France in its third game of the Olympic Basketball Tournament.
