Jonas Maciulis came back from a serious knee injury only in February, but seems to have got his career back on track, signing a one-year-deal with one of the best European teams Panathinaikos.

Despite multiple changes in the club, most notably ‒ coach Zeljko Obradovic leaving Athens, the Lithuanian forward is looking forward to facing the new challenges in Greece.

“It will be very interesting, because the new season will be a big challenge both for me and the club,” Maciulis told lrytas.lt.

The player came away with a positive first impression of the new Panathinaikos head coach Argiris Pedoulakis.

“He seems to be a great tactician and has a lot of interesting thoughts. He wants us to understand the game, all the little details.

For example, if your eyes don’t meet with another player, you shouldn’t pass the ball. He is one of the most interesting coaches I have ever met,” said Maciulis.

The hard-nosed athlete did not make much of the fact that with the legendary name, comes a big burden of expectations.

“Believe me, the pressure is not smaller playing for the Lithuanian national team. There’s a lot of people who talk and write nonsense. I just need to focus on my job. There’s a lot of rubbish in Greek press, but my job is to play on the court,” Maciulis said.
